Welcoming Sally Holdgate as Principal, Leading Growth in the Waikato

Sally Holdgate wide

We’re excited to welcome Sally Holdgate to the Wingates team as Principal, as we continue to grow our presence in the Waikato region.

Hamilton-born and bred, Sally brings nearly two decades of experience across Aotearoa, Australia and the UK, with a strong portfolio spanning residential, education, commercial and civic projects. Most recently, she has spent five years leading her own architecture studio in Hamilton, known for its clarity, care and collaborative approach.

Sally’s recent work includes:

  • The University of Waikato Student Accommodation in Tauranga

  • A significant classroom block refurbishment

  • A 13-unit retirement village in Matamata with a shared community garden

  • The upcoming Tihoi Reception & Office building at St Paul’s Collegiate School’s Tihoi Venture School

Her design approach is grounded, generous, and always context-responsive. She is known for balancing aesthetics with practical delivery, building strong client relationships, and guiding projects from master planning through to completion with clarity and care.

Sally joins Wingates to lead our work in the Waikato, supported by our Tauranga and Auckland studios, and will continue to serve many of her existing clients as part of this next chapter.

“I care about my clients, who I’m proud to bring with me on this next chapter, and I take time to listen and build strong, trusted relationships. I believe good architecture reflects and enhances identity, fosters belonging, and makes daily life better, whether that’s at home, at school, or in a public setting. My work is grounded, generous, and shaped by listening — to clients, communities, and place.”
