Located on the ground floor of the new Tauranga City Council building, Florence Bistro is a welcoming addition to the main entry lobby, spilling out onto a lively laneway animated by local artwork and outdoor seating. Open from morning to evening, the bistro serves Italian-inspired fare in a relaxed setting.
The fitout takes a deliberately restrained approach, allowing the architecture of the base building to remain visible and celebrated. Solid timber joinery references both the building’s sustainably sourced timber structure and the warmth of traditional Italian craftsmanship.
At the heart of the space, a handcrafted terracotta mosaic bar anchors the open kitchen, set against softly rendered plaster walls to bring texture and authenticity. Plaster finishes continue throughout, creating a consistent backdrop that evokes the feeling of dining in a sun-drenched Italian laneway. Designed to reflect the chef’s personality, the space is considered yet welcoming, offering an experience that feels both personal and effortlessly generous.
